Welcome!
March 20, 2008
I am Heather Royston, the Land Use Officer for Upstate Cruisers. For years, taking care of the environment has been my primary focus in my professional life as an environmental consultant. I am very fortunate now to be a member and Officer of UC and help the club continue their commitment to environmental sustainability and open access to public lands.
Our sport is one that takes a lot of flack for being damaging to the environment. But more often than not, it’s not the sport that does the damage, but irresponsible individuals that do not respect the land. This is not UC. We endeavor to Tread Lightly wherever we go, and we hope to leave the areas we visit in the same or better condition when we depart.
We also stay involved with land use issues that may affect our sport and our geographic area. Right now, there are land use battles waging at a number of our favorite destinations. First and foremost is the battle to keep the Upper Tellico OHV Area open. Located in the Tusquitee Ranger District of the Nantahala National Forest, this OHV area has some of the best and most challenging trails in the East.
For more details on active land use issues that we support, and that could use your support, please visit the Land Use forum of IH8MUD.com, and the Southern Four Wheel Drive Association page regarding Tellico. We also ask that you support UC and other organizations that are out there fighting for your right to use public land for our sport.
